Press Release No: 564/04 POST LITERACY MEETING HELD AT NONGPOH Shillong, September 3, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh, convened a meeting of the Governing Council of the District Literacy Society on September 2, 2004 at his office chamber, to discussed the mopping up implementation of Post Literacy Programme. The meeting decided to take up two strategies as preliminary steps for successful implementation of the programme, in which surveying work first be conducted and to be followed by awareness campaign. Around 20 certain villages from different parts of the District has been selected to be centres for awareness campaign. One person in each centre has been appointed to supervise and co-ordinate the implementation of the programme. Later on the day, the Deputy Commissioner also held a meeting with Officers of various Departments of the District to review the progress of developmental activities and to get first hand knowledge of their future course of action. It may be mentioned that the District was awarded by the Central Government for its performance in the last Literacy Campaign. |

Press Release No: 565/04 NATIONAL OLD AGE PENSION SCHEME TO BE DISBURSED Shillong, September 3, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has informed that the National Old Age Pension Scheme of Rs. 100/- with effect from 1-6-04 to 31-07-04 for the existing beneficiaries of both State and Central Share for Urban and Rural Areas will be disbursed immediately. Those beneficiaries residing in urban areas and rural areas are requested to contact Nazir DC’s Office, Shillong, Room No. 211 and Block Development Officers respectively from September 10, 2004 onwards during office hours. |
