Press Release No. 618//04 HOME MINISTER MEETS POLICE OFFICIALS AT WILLIAMNAGAR Shillong, September 23, 2004: The Meghalaya Home Minister, Mr H.R.D. Lyngdoh met the police officials at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District, on September 22, 2004, in which a meeting was held at the Reserve Police Hall. The idea of his visit was to get first hand knowledge of the law and order problem . Lauding the efforts of the police personnel in getting the ANVC signed the ceasefire agreement with the Government, the Home Minister said that the ceasefire agreement is a big achievement not only for the police but for the State as a whole. However, the Home Minister reiterated that the police have to be alert because other militant groups may take advantage of the ceasefire. Therefore he urged upon them not to allow other militant groups create disturbance in the District and the State as a whole. Mr. Lyngdoh also said that the police should maintain their discipline and work dedicatedly for the welfare of the State. He also pointed out that the upgradation of A.S.I. posts to S.I. posts will enhance better police service in the State and police stations will have more responsible officers especially in the rural areas in terms of security. Regarding modernization of the police force, the Home Minister informed that he has taken up the matter with the Union Home Minister during his visit to the State, in which the Union Home Ministry Department has sanctioned Rs.2 crores for modernization of the police force. He also informed that the headquarter of the 5th Battalion will be set up at Samanda, East Garo Hills in which the land acquisition is under process. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Mr.L.B. Sangma, IGP Law and Order, western Range, Mr. W.R.Marbaniang, Additional DGP Law and Order and Mr. F.G. Kharshiing S.P. East Garo Hills who also presided over the meeting. |

Press Release No. 619//04 MUKTIEH FELICITATED AT MAWRONG Shillong, September 23, 2004: Mr. P.W. Muktieh, Meghalaya Deputy Speaker and local MLA was felicitated on September 22, 2004, by the Synjuk Khadar Shnong, Mawrong (SKSM). Besides the public, the felicitation ceremony was attended by the local MDC, Mr. Donbok Khymdeit as the Guest of Honour, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. W.L. Lyngdoh, District Officers, Headmen and Syiem Raid. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muktieh said that Mawrong is one of the villages of Ri Bhoi which has produced a number of prominent leaders in different disciplines. Stating that the Synjuk Khadar Shnong was formed with the aim of bringing all round development to the area, he expressed his willingness to work hand in hand with the Synjuk and urged upon the public to cooperate with the Synjuk, as development without social commitment serves no purpose. Mr. Donbok Khymdeit, MDC, in his speech, urged upon the people to use the developmental schemes properly and to maintain cooperation among themselves so that any project of schemes meant for development could be implemented at an accelerated pace. Mr. W.L. Lyngdoh, DC, said that survival of a nation is sound economy and therefore urged the people to avail the developmental schemes available in different Government Departments. Mr. Lyngdoh also sought the cooperation of the people and the Headmen during the intensive Electoral Roll Revision for the success of the programme. Others who spoke on the occasion included Mr. P.M. Kharsyntiew, BDO, Mrs. V. Kharnaior, Mr. M.M. Syiem, Syiem Raid Narlein, Mr. B.S. Syiem, Syiem Raid Mawthoh, Mr. W.D. Makdoh. The meeting was presided by Mr. B.B. Makdoh, President SKSM. |

Press Release No. 620//04 ADMISSION TO SAINIK SCHOOL GOALPARA Shillong, September 23, 2004: The Principal of Sainik School Goalpara, Assam has informed that admissions to this school for the academic year 2005-2006 are invited for classes VI & IX. Boys studying/passed class V/VIII and born between on July 2, 1994 and July 1, 1995 can apply for class VI while those born between July 2, 1991 and July 1, 1992 can apply for admission to Class IX. For prospectus, a demand draft or postal order for the sum of Rs.350 should be made in favour of the Principal, Sainik School Goalpara, Assam. For old question papers, an additional amount of Rs.25 is required. The last date to receive completed applications is December 10, 2004. |

Press Release No. 621/04 3 DAYS STATE MOURNING DECLARED Shillong, September 23, 2004: The State Government has declared a three days State mourning from September 23-25, 2004 as a mark of respect to the deceased Minister, Mr. Cyprian R. Sangma, MLAs Mr. Ardhendu Chaudhuri and Mr. Helton Marak and other passengers and crew members of the ill fated helicopter, which crashed on September 22, 2004. During the said period, the National Flag will be flown at half mast on all Government buildings and there will be no official entertainment throughout the State. All State Government Offices, Revenue and Magisterial Courts and Educational Institutions in Meghalaya will remain closed on September 24, 2004. |
