DISTRICT LEVEL EXHIBITION TO BE HELD IN NOVEMBER

Shillong September 15, 2004: Artisans, entrepreneurs, registered SSI units including Government and Semi Government Departments of East Garo Hills will once again get the opportunity to showcase their industrial ability by displaying their products in the District Level Exhibition which will be held during 2nd - 4th November 2004. This was informed by the District Industries Centre (DIC) of East Garo Hills, Williamnagar.

It may be mentioned that such Exhibitions are annually organised by the DIC with a view to encourage local entrepreneurs and artisans.

BAGHMARA TO CELEBRATE 125 YEARS

Shillong September 15, 2004: Baghmara, the District Headquarters of South Garo Hills, will celebrate 125 years of its existence in December this year at Simsang beach.

The Deputy Commissioner of South Garo hills, Mr. T. Dkhar, in this regard, called a high level meeting on September 10, 2004 and different committees for the purpose have also been formed involving the District officials, prominent citizens, public leaders and church leaders, with the Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman of the Steering Committee.

Prior to the fixed month,the District Headquarter will be beautified and given a fresh look.

REVIEW MEETING ON FLOOD DAMAGE HELD AT SHILLONG

Shillong, September 15, 2004: A meeting between the State Government headed by Mr. W.M.S. Pariat, Principal Secretary, Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Government of Meghalaya, and a six member team of the Union Home Ministry, headed by the Joint Secretary of Human Resource Development, Mr. K.S. Ramakrishnan, was held on September 15, 2004 at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Shillong, to assess the damage caused by flood and landslide in July this year. It may be mentioned that the Central team visited the flood affected areas in Garo Hills on September 13, 2004, to get a first hand information about the intensity of damage from the District administration.

During the discussion with the State Government, Mr. Ramakrishnan urged upon various Department like PWD, PHE, Agriculture, Irrigation, Veterinary etc., to submit a detailed report on the extend of damage caused by flash flood in Meghalaya, including loss of public property, houses, cattle, poultry, crops, etc., so that the same can be recommended by the Central team to the concerned Ministry for consideration of allocation of relief fund.

State Central Library Auditorium to be handed over for public use

Shillong, September 15, 2004: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Donkupar Roy along with Secretariat Administration Department Minister, Mr Sayeedullah Nongrum, Deputy Speaker Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr P W Muktieh, Chief Secretary, Mr P J Bazeley and other senior government officials today visited the Art and Culture Complex at Brookside, Rilbong, here and inspected the building and its premises for the purpose of holding temporary Assembly sessions there till the permanent Assembly building is completed.

After the inspection, a brief meeting was held in which it was decided that all the furniture and fixtures relating to the Assembly from the State Central Library Auditorium should be shifted to the Art and Culture Complex, Rilbong and that the State Central Library Auditorium should be restored and made available for public use by October 2, 2004.
