Press Release No:665/04 WORKSHOP ON DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT Shillong, October 14, 2004: To create awareness in the event of any disaster which might occur in any part of the District at any time, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, will conduct a workshop on Disaster Risk Management on October 18-19, 2004 from 10:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. in the Science Hall, Nongpoh. Members of the District Disaster Management Committee, District level Master Trainers, NGOs of the District are expected to take part in the workshop. |

Press Release No:666/04 TLC LAUNCHED IN SOUTH GARO HILLS Shillong, October 14, 2004: Mrs. B.K. Sangma, retired Secretary, MBOSE, formally launched the Total Literacy Campaign (TLC) in South Garo Hills in a colourful function held in the premises of Baghmara Circuit House today. The function was attended by District officials, prominent citizens, leaders of local NGOs, students and members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills, Mr. T. Dkhar, who is also the Chairman of the District Literacy Society presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Sangma stressed on the need to induct enthusiastic persons for the campaign in the District to expand people’s knowledge, outlook and above all the standard of life. Comparing the growth rate of literacy in Kerala and Mizoram, Mrs. Sangma urged upon the youngsters, particularly, the student community to lend their helping hands to the Chairman of the District Literacy Society in implementing the programmes successfully in the District. Earlier, to mark the launching of the TLC in the District, a motor rally was organised in Baghmara by the District Literacy Society, in which a number of two and three wheelers, light motor vehicles, etc., participated. |
