OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF DIPR LAUNCHED

Meghalaya IPR Minister, Mr R G Lyngdoh inaugurating the official website of the Department of Information & Public Relations, Meghalaya in the Conference room of the NIC Complex, Shillong on November 28, 2003. 

After much anticipation the Department of Information & Public Relations has finally gone hi-tech with the launching of its website, http://www.megipr.nic.in. Seeing the need to keep abreast with changing times, which entail quick dissemination of information, the website has been designed to cater to this objective.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri R.G.Lyngdoh, Minister of IPR, Government of Meghalaya said that the website will go a long way in bridging the gap between the Government and the media. He complimented the officials of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations and the National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya for having taken pains in designing and developing content for the website. He asked the DIPR to constantly monitor and update the contents of its website so that it may serve its stated purpose of providing accurate information to the media and the public at large.

Shri Timothy Dkhar, State Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya while speaking on the occasion said that the DIPR website is the first in the north eastern region and among the few in the country.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Shri P.C Chakraborty, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary IPR. The function was chaired by Smti A.M. Sangma, MCS, Director, IPR and the vote of thanks was proposed by Shri C. Passah, Public Relations Officer.

The main features of the site include basic information about the State of Meghalaya, information about the infrastructural set up and activities of the Department of Information & Public Relations, matters pertaining to Press Accreditation and Advertisement Policy, Directory of the Government of Meghalaya, etc, which can be downloaded from the website. Links are also provided to websites of other Government Departments and Media Organisations. The highlight of the site is the inclusion of press releases about the activities, events and initiatives taken by the Government of Meghalaya, which will be upgraded on a day to day basis.

PRESS RELEASE

A meeting has been convened by the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills Shillong with the Frontier Chamber of Commerce, Meghalaya Chamber of Commerce, and Tribal Chamber of Commerce to assess the stock position of food grains and other essential commodities in view of the potential threat of truckers from West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand not to send their vehicles to the North East.

After assessing the situation in detail, it was informed by the traders that the threat will not affect the supply of essential commodities to Shillong and the stock position is adequate to suffice till the end of December 2003.

SELLING OF GOODS ON PWD ROADS AND FOOTPATHS PROHIBITED (PR.No. 650/03)

SHILLONG, November 28, 2003 : The Additional District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has been promulgated an order under section 133 Cr.P.C. prohibiting selling of goods by vendors and hawkers on PWD roads and Footpaths. The selling of goods by vendors and hawkers on PWD roads and Footpaths should be removed within a period of one week with immediate effect.

APPEAL TO MAINTAIN PEACE IN THE STATE (PR.No. 651/03)

SHILLONG, November 28, 2003 : In order to maintain communal harmony, to build and strengthen universal brotherhood and to bring peace and prosperity to the state, also that the good name of peace loving district and state is maintained the all Rangbah Shnong NGO’s, All Meghalaya Karbi Association of Ri Bhoi District has fervently appealed to the khasi students union to withdraw the ‘Quit Notice’ issued to the Karbis.
