Shillong, May 28, 2004: The Twelfth Finance Commission (TFC), under the Chairmanship of Dr. C Rangarajan, is paying a two day official visit to the State on June 1 and 2, 2004. On June 1, from 2:45 P.M. onwards, the Commission will be meeting representatives of the Autonomous District Councils, representatives of political parties and representatives of Trade and Industry at the Conference Room of the Meghalaya Secretariat. At 7:30 P.M., a cultural programme in honour of the TFC will be organised at the Pinewood Hotel.

On June 2, the Commission will meet the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. D D Lapang, his Cabinet colleagues and high officials of the State Government at the Conference Room of the Meghalaya Secretariat from 8:35 A.M. onwards.

Shillong, June 28, 2004: The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division, has promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr.P.C., prohibiting plying of overloaded trucks, loading, unloading of coal/stones/sand and parking of heavy vehicles/trucks along the National Highway-44, under Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division. Owners of coal/stones/sand are directed to keep such materials at a distance of 10 (ten) feet away from the NH-44.

Anyone found violating the order shall be punished according to the law.
