Press Release No.356/04 MSGEF SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION Shillong, June 8, 2004: To commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Meghalaya State Government Employees Federation, the Cultural Committee is holding the Inter Office Unplugged Competition for Solo and Group (English). In the connection, entries are invited only from Central/State Government Offices including Police/Public Undertaking/Autonomous Bodies Offices for participation. The venue, date and time will be notified on a later date. The entry fee is Rs. 300/- and Rs 500/- for solo and group respectively. All entries should reach Mr. Amirphor Jyrwa, Office of the Additional Director of Surveys, Government of Meghalaya, Shillong-1, Lower Lachumiere from 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM or can call at 2226096 on or before June 30, 2004. Press Release No.357/04 AWARDS ON OCCASION OF RI BHOI FOUNDATION DAY Shillong, June 8, 2004: On the occasion of Ri Bhoi Day celebration, an inspection of restaurants and hotels located within Nongpoh area was conducted by the Food Inspector, Department of Health, Government of Meghalaya on the request of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. W. L. Lyngdoh on June 02, 2004. Sweet Day Restaurant at Saiden was adjudged the most clean restaurant in Nongpoh. Also cleaning drives were held on the said day and Mawdiangum village in Nongpoh was awarded the most cleaning locality whereas among the institutions, Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Secondary School bagged the title. Further, the District Administration has arranged for the disbursement of financial assistance to handicap children with multiple disabilities. Meritorious students of the district during the SSLC 2004 were also awarded. The 1st prize was awarded to Mr. D. Makdoh, RBP Secondary School, 2nd prize to Mr. H. Wahlang of MeSEB School and Mr. D. Kshiar of RBP School and the 3rd prize to Mr. H. Rani of St. Paul Secondary School All the above awards were given on June 04, 2004 at Pahamsyiem playground. |

Press Release No.358/04 MARNGAR LAKE TO BE DEVELOPED INTO AN ORGANISED TOURIST SPOT Shillong, June 8, 2004: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D. D. Lapang, today laid the foundation stone of the Marngar Lake at Marngar village, Ri Bhoi District about 60 Kms from here. The function was presided over by Mr. R. Syiem, Syiem Raid Marngar. The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr W. L. Lyngdoh also attended the function. It may be mentioned that the enchanting Marngar Lake surrounded by lush green hills is a famous spot among the people of Ri Bhoi District and even people from outside the district. The Lake site is frequented by many people especially on holidays and special occasions. Dr. Lapang while speaking on the occasion, stated that after taking into consideration the tourist potential aspect of the lake, the State Government has sanctioned an initial amount for developing the lake and its surrounding areas into an organised tourist spot with proper fencing and other facilities that would enhance the tourism potential of the Lake. Expressing his confidence that “Marngar Lake” would soon be incorporated in the State’s Tourist Map, Dr. Lapang felt that this would attract more tourists to the area both domestic and international. This will uplift the economy of the area, generate employment among the people especially the youth and develop the area, he opined. Dr. Lapang called upon the people of Raid Marngar especially the Syiems and Sordars to extend full cooperation with the Government to develop the Lake. He also advised the Syiem Raid Marngar to constitute a committee to be entrusted with the work of managing the developed lake so that maximum benefit is achieved. The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. W. L. Lyngdoh in his brief speech informed that the works for developing the lake would start in the month of July this year and notice inviting tender would soon be floated for the work. |
