INAUGURATES PROFESSIONAL COURSES AT SHILLONG COLLEGE

Shillong, June 22, 2004: The Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr P J Bazeley today inaugurated the professional courses of B.B.A., B.C.A & B.Sc. in Computer Science at Shillong College. The NEC Secretary, Mr P. L. Thanga graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Chaired by the Principal of the said College, Mrs. M. P. R. Lyngdoh, the function which was held in the Conference Hall of the College was largely attended by the students and faculty members amidst the presence of dignitaries and invitees.

Speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Bazeley lauded the College Management for initiating many progressive changes in the college over the years. Stating the importance of keeping up with the changing times he felt that the introduction of professional courses would go a long way in benefiting the students. Stressing on the importance of improving the quality of life, not only at the individual level but also at the societal level, he expressed hope that all students availing the benefits of the courses would look upon the opportunity as a challenge to bring a paradigm shift in society.

Adding his views, Mr Thanga said while academic pursuit is important, it is more important to have a positive approach to life. While stressing on the importance of intellectuals sharing their views for the development of society, he also said that students can play a vital role in bringing about constructive changes. Terming the commencement of professional courses in Shillong College as a move in the right direction, he expressed hope that the facilities provided in the College would be utilized to the optimum.

Later, the NEC Secretary also gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions, organised by the Shillong College Academic Society, on the occasion of World Environment Day, on June 5, 2004.

ASSA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED

Shillong, June 22, 2004: Meghalaya Minister for Power, Mr. R L Tariang attended the football final matches organised by the Amlarem Sub-Division Sports Association (ASSA) Football Tournament on Saturday last.

Speaking at a meeting chaired by Mr. A Bofth, EAC, Amlarem Sub-Division, Mr. Tariang lauded the efforts of the ASSA for conducting such a smooth tournament. Informing the gathering and the players that the Central Government has initiated a plan to organise a mini-Olympic at Guwahati in October this year, he said that probable players from different corners of the State will be selected to represent the State. Therefore, he expressed hope that skilled players will be picked from the ASSA and the District in general.

The Minister also informed the gathering that the Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 40,000/- in aid of the ASSA.

It may be mentioned that in the final matches, Pdengshakap Sports Club defeated Sohlawiat SC by 1-0 in the final of the 1st Division Amlarem Sub-Division Sports Association Football Tournament while in the 2nd Division, Padu Club beat Shkenpyrsit by a same margin.

Shillong, June 22, 2004: Consequent upon the price revision of Motor Spirit (ULP) and High Speed Diesel (HSD) with effect from midnight of June 15, 2004, retail price of MS (Petrol) and HSD (Diesel) has also been revised in Shillong Sadar Sub-Division of the different petrol pumps.

Khasi Hills Petroleum Supply, Co, Mawlai is Rs. 35.26p and Rs. 21.53p, at M/S. Peak Service Station, Dhankheti is Rs. 35.20p for Motor Spirit only, at M/S. Peak Service Station, Laitkor is Rs. 21.57p for High Speed Diesel only, at M/S. Assam Auto Agencies, Laitumkhrah is Rs. 35.28p and Rs. 21.54p, at M/S. Assam Auto Agencies, Jail Road is Rs. 35.28p for Motor Spirit only, at M/S. Iada Refill Centre, Mawryngkneng is Rs. 35.21p and Rs. 21.51p, at M/S. Rani Service Station, Weiloi is Rs. 35.28p and Rs. 21.55p, at M/S. Donbok Service Station, Pynursla is Rs. 35.25p and Rs. 21.53p, at M/S. WHOLESALE PURCHASE TO BE REGULATED

Shillong, June 22, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has notified that the wholesale purchase, sale and storage of leafy and fresh vegetables (including cabbage, cauliflower, carrot, radish, etc.), peas (naspati), plum and peaches will be regulated within the Mawiong Market Place, notified under the Meghalaya Agricultural Produce Market Act, 1980 with effect from July 1, 2004.

No whole sale transaction shall take place in any other areas except in the notified market place.
