WORLD POPULATION DAY OBSERVED IN CITY

SHILLONG, July 12, 2004: “The youths of the State should get married at the appropriate age and to adopt a small and a happy family,” this was said by the minister of Sports and Youths Affairs, PWD (Building), Home (Jail), Fisheries etc. Mr. Paul Lyngdoh in his speech on the occasion of the World Population Day which was observed in the city today at Asom Kristi Kendra, Dhankheti, which was organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in collaboration with Directorate Health Services and Heath and Family Welfare, Government of India, on the theme “Girl or Boy small family is Joy”.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Mr. Lyngdoh has urged upon the youths to be more responsible, adding that youth can narrow the ability to meet the unlimited demand of population. Mr. Lyngdoh said that we need quality and not quantity, adding that if we can control population there would never be a problem of unemployment.

Mr. Lyngdoh also asserted that youths is the future generation and remember that the responsibilities as a good citizen of the country. He also said that the strength of the country lies in the youth.

Other who spoke on the occasion were the Commissioner and secretary Health, Government of Meghalaya, Mr K S Kropha, Director Health Service, Dr. B Lyndem, District Youth Co-ordinator NYKS, D. Rapsang and the Deputy Youth Welfare Co-ordinator In-charge Middle East, B. Wahlang.

Earlier, a rally was held were hundreds of school children’s from various schools took part in the rally which was flag off by the Director of Heath Services from Malki Ground and proceed towards Asom Kristi Kendra.

FAIR PRICE SHOP TO RETURN FAMILY IDENTITY CARD

Shillong, July 13, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, has informed that Fair Price Shop Dealer/S.K. Oil Retail Dealer should not keep any Family Identity Card, be it APL, BPL, AAY Card, with them or in their shop premises. Any F.I. Card lying with the Fair Price Shop Dealer/S.K. Oil Retail Dealer should be returned back to the rightful owner.

If dealers are found violating this order, action will be taken against them as per law.

CARRYING OF PASSENGERS BY VEHICLES WITH A/F NUMBER PLATE PROHIBITED

Shillong, July 13, 2004: The Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Shillong has informed that, in a meeting held recently, it has been decided to strictly prohibit Local Taxis/ Autorickshaws with number plate A/F to carry passengers on hire.
