However, in compensation all such Offices and Courts shall be opened on December 20, 2003 (Saturday) and January 24, 2004 (Saturday). |

Press Release No.709/03 PULSE POLIO IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME Shillong, December 19, 2003: The Health Department under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, and the Civil Surgeon of Nongstoin, will carry out the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme in West Khasi Hills District, to all children under 5 years (five) years of age on 5th, 6th and 7th January and 23rd, 24th and 25th February 2004. Parents are requested to bring their children under 5 years of age to the nearest CHC, PHC, Sub-Centres, organy PPI booth arranged by the Health Department in or near their respective villages. It is hoped that the active participation of parents, without fear or misconception will help achieve the goal of Polio Eradication from the State of Meghalaya. |

Press Release No. 710/03 DC VISITS MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY NONGPOH Shillong, December 19, 2003: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr W L Lyngdoh and Dr. T Swer, District Medical and Health officer, Nongpoh made an official visit to the Missionary of Charity, Nongpoh on December 17, 2003. Following an inspection of the various wings of the Centre, which comprises of the Leper Colony, the Nirmal Hriday (Old-age home) and the Orphanage, the Deputy Commissioner assured the Sister in-charge, Sr. Blanch to extend all possible help to the Missionary of Charity by increasing the PDS Rice quota from 7 to 10 quintals per month. The District and Medical Officer on his part will contribute medicines to the centre from time to time, while the Sister in charge would have to submit utilisation report along with the numbers of patients treated. Concerning the sanitation of the Leper’s Colony, the Deputy Commissioner said that one (1) toilet each, for the male and female ward will be constructed through the DRDA Scheme which also includes painting and white washing of the building occupied. He also said that 50 beds and allied provisions will also be provided to the Orphanage wing. With regards to provisions of boundary fencing, he said that the matter will be taken up later. Later, the Deputy Commissioner, also went for spot inspection to the Community Health Centre, Nongpoh where following his rounds, he informed that the immediate need is the shifting of the Morgue from the main town area and assured to achieve this end within three months. |

Press Release No. 712/03 PRICE OF PETROL AND DIESEL Shillong, December 19, 2003: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) East Khasi Hills has informed that consequent upon the increase of price of Petroleum Product under the IOC Ltd (MD) by the Government of India from midnight of December 16, 2003, the revised retail price of MS (Petrol) and MSD (Diesel) in Shillong Sadar Sub-division of different petrol pumps are Rs. 32.24 for petrol and Rs 19.59 for diesel. |
