Press Release No: 542/04 TRAINING FOR CIC OPERATORS INAUGURATED Shillong, August 23, 2004: A two days workshop for District Informatics Officers, Assistants and CIC operators was inaugurated today by the Meghalaya Principal Secretary, C&RD Department, Mr. J.M. Mauskar at the Conference Hall of the NIC Building, Shillong. Presided by the Meghalaya Commissioner and Secretary, Mr. Shreeranjan, the workshop on the theme “Managing Block Community Portal, Drishya, CMS etc” was attended by CIC operators of all 32 blocks of the State. In his inaugural address, Mr. Mauskar said that taking into consideration the rapid changes taking place in the field of Information Technology, there is an urgent need for CIC operators to update their knowledge base for better efficiency while performing their duties. Adding that CICs play a vital role in interfacing between the Government and the people, he urged upon the operators to come up with innovative ways of informing the public at the block level of the various activities, plans and schemes of the Government. Further, he also urged upon the CIC operators to raise the quality of their functioning so that the CICs can achieve the objectives for which their were created. Adding his views while presiding over the function, Mr. Shreeranjan expressed hope that following the examination and redressal of problems faced by the CIC operators, there will be an upsurge in the activities of the CIC in future. It may be mentioned that the workshop is being conducted to examine and evaluate the functioning of the CIC and CIC operators and also to impart training on installing and operating various software, uploading content in the net and addressing networking problems faced in the CICs. |

Press Release No: 543/04 1ST ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Shillong, August 23, 2004: To mark its 1st Anniversary, the KSU Lumkshaid Unit organized an Award Ceremony at the Community Hall, Lumkshaid here on August 21, 2004 where prizes were distributed to meritorious students and outstanding sports person of the locality. Speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion, Meghalaya Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Paul Lyngdoh congratulated the winners of the Excellence Award and Outstanding Sports Person Award and expressed hope that they would serve as examples for other youth of the locality to strive for excellence. Press Release No: 544/04 RENEWABLE ENERGY DAY 0BSERVED AT NONGPOH Shillong, August 23, 2004: To commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of the former Prime Minister of India, Late Rajiv Gandhi, “Rajiv Gandhi Akshya Urja Diwas” was observed at a function held at St. Paul’s Hall, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District, on Friday last. It may be mentioned that 52 schools from the District took part in the celebration. The function, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nongpoh, in collaboration with the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy and Renewable Energy, New Delhi, was presided by the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. W L Lyngdoh, in which the Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Mr. P W Muktieh was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muktieh appreciated the initiatives taken in organizing such an important programme in the District to make people aware of the importance and usefulness that Science and Technology offers in utilizing renewable energy as the alternative source of energy, so as to preserve the environment and protect the depletion of fuel reserves. Others who spoke on the occasion included Mr. R R Makdoh, MDC, Mrs. M N Nampui, ADM and others. The other highlights of the day included prize distribution to the winners of the Debate, Painting and Drawing competition. |
