Press Release No 235/04 CLARIFICATION Shillong, April 2, 2004: Drawing attention to a Newspaper report regarding Drinking Water Crisis in Shillong city, the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, PHE Department, has clarified that there is no such apprehension of a drinking water crisis in Shillong as quoted in the paper. The availability of water through the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) and Municipal scorches is around 240 lac litres per day, which is around 80 litres per capita per day. Further he also stated that this availability is likely to go up to 405 lac litres per day when the new pumps are installed under the GSWSS, thereby increasing the availability of water to 135 litres per capita per day. |

Press Release No 236/04 ENTRANCE TEST FOR ADMISSION Shillong, April 2, 2004: The Principal, All Jawahar NavodayaVidyalaya (JNV), under Shillong region has informed that Entrance test for admission in class IX for 2004 would be conducted as against the vacant seats. The prospects cum application forms which have already been distributed from February 18, 2004 should reach the RO/Principal , JNV on or before April 10, 2004 and the admit cards to candidates would be dispatched in May 5, 2004. The Entrance test would be conducted on May 23, 2004. |

Press Release No 237/04 DUMPING OF GARBAGE PROHIBITED Shillong, April 2, 2004: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, has promulgated an order prohibiting dumping of garbage along the National Highway 40 from Mawiong to Barapani stretch, the National Highway 40 from Gorkha High School to 3rd Mile stretch, National Highway 44 Madanriting to Laitkor stretch, other roads like Bomfyle road near Shillong College and PGT College. Any vehicles found to be indulging in such acts, would be seized, confiscated and members of the public doing so would be penalized in accordance with the law. |

Press Release No 238/04 RICE UNDER APL, BPL AND AAY RELEASED Shillong, April 2, 2004: The Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that rice under APL, BPL and AAY categories for the year 2004-2005 have been released to the Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers of all the Districts and Sub-Divisions in the State as per monthly quantities indicated below:-
The scale of supply per family per month is 11kg 50grams for APL at the rate of Rs. 8.80p to Rs. 10.00p per kg, 35kgs for BPL at the rate of Rs. 6.15p per kg and 35kgs for AAY at the rate of Rs. 3.00p per kg. The consumers can obtain supplies of the foodgrains under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) against each monthly quota from their respective Fair Price Shops. Any delay or non-supply of the monthly quota by the Fair Price Shop dealers should be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Officer of the area concerned. |

Press Release No 242/04 TOLL GATES IN RI BHOI CLOSED Shillong, April 2, 2004: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, has informed that all toll gates in the District have been closed for non-compliance to the order issued by him, such as displaying of rates in front of the counter, submission of particulars of collector, receipt books with printed rates and other requirements that may be needed by the District Authority in the operation of the toll gate, which are regulatory in nature for the maintenance of law and order. |
